By Chance was born in 2025—well, by chance—over coffee at a local Montclair bakery. We found ourselves talking about how hard it is to find a boutique that strikes the perfect balance: trend-driven but unique and attainable without sacrificing style.

That spontaneous conversation turned into something more: a concept where women could shop for pieces that feel fresh, fun, and a little bit unexpected.

By Chance is our love letter to all the women who want to feel confident, joyful, and effortlessly put together. Everything is chosen with intention to help you express yourself.

Who We Are

We’re Claire and June—Montclair moms, friends, and fashion lovers who share a mutual love of power walks in the neighborhood, tennis, all shades of neon, and the kind of statement bag we hope our daughters will steal one day.

Claire brings her signature eye for mixing statement accessories and bold pops of color, fueled by her passion for shopping small and local. With a background in Human Resources, she is the creative heartbeat of the duo, always hunting for bold colors, standout textures and joyful details that make the outfit come alive.

June, a longtime fashion industry exec, leans classic with a twist — think timeless silhouettes, standout prints, and retail magic built from years as a VP of Merchandising. She has an eye for mixing unexpected pieces and a talent for helping friends pull together looks that feel uniquely them.
